I worked with a guy who got hired around the same time I did, but left about a year ago. On to bigger and better things, he said.
This evening that same gentleman was on the Register. It was a pleasure to work with him. He seems funnier and more hard-working this time. Not sure why.
At the end of the night someone bought $700 worth of stuff, on a credit card. And the guy at One said she might have a shopping addiction.
I yelled at a co-worker today, because I thought he gave me a customer he should have taken care of. And lately it seems that he ignores people when they need help, even if he is in a position to assist. So after I yelled at him across half the store, I found him in the stockroom and made amends.
Amends.

What Should I Take?
I don't what it is about standing around in Aisle 9 that makes people ask me pharmaceutical questions. But they do. Aisle 9 is the Pain/Sleep/Cough and Cold aisle and whenever I am working there, people ask me questions that I cannot legally answer. I answer anyway, but I always say,
"I am not a medical professional. I cannot legally give you medical advice. But if I were you..."
Today I was doing outdates in Aisle 9, which means I went through each item and checked it's expiration date. We had quite a few of expired or nearly expired items. And I had quite a few questions regarding people's pharmaceutical needs. They always looked annoyed that I wasn't that helpful.
I cleaned the men's bathroom after we closed. And someone didn't flush after going Number 2. And there was a pile of toilet paper in the corner, which I didn't touch, even with my gloves. And there was shit on the wall and the toilet seat. Honestly, how does someone do that?
I actually helped someone in Photo today! An older Indian gentlemen who kept apologizing, unnecessarily. He said that his son usually prints his photos for him, but he didn't know how. The whole thing was quite heartwarming, thank you very much.

Hours, Part 2
My store manager is not trying to screw me. I was just misinformed. The average hours needed to get and maintain benefits are 30.

Hours
First of all, I think my manager is trying to screw me over. I'm not sure though. I noticed my hours were at 29 or 30 or 29.5, and I thought full-time was 32. So I called him (at the store, when I knew he was there) and asked him about getting more hours to make sure I was still full-time. He said full-time was actually 30 hours. When I asked a few other managers, they said they thought full-time was 32 hours. My store manager did say I could come in early if I needed the hours, and I guess I'll have to do that. I need to figure out how many hours full-time is, what happens if the insurance company drops me, and how to avoid getting screwed over. I need to make a call to the benefits people.
One of my regulars came in holding a toddler. She asked me to ring her up because she had her kids in the car. Of course I rung her up. And quickly, but how are you gonna leave your kids in the car? There are so many warnings about not doing that.
Another regular came in, with her kid. She was buying milk and she needed a roll of quarters. While she waited at the counter, her kid kept making farting noises with the Whoopie Cushion he had picked up. Every time he did that, she would shush him and he would giggle. It was actually kind of adorable.

Hallmark, Photo and Jesus
I did Hallmark and Photo until the guy who was actually scheduled in Photo showed up.
While in the Hallmark I chatted with a woman who spent a long time looking at cards. She said she wanted to find just the right one. Because a few years back she bought her now-deceased mother a Mother's Day card and never gave it to her because the card was for/about the idealized mother. And evidently her mother was not ideal. Now she wants to give that card to one of her grandkids to give to their mother. She told me she had been holding onto that card for a number of years and feels regret about how her and her mother's relationship turned out. I told her a little about my mom and our relationship, and I also suggested that giving away the Mother's Day card she has been holding onto might offer her some closure regarding her own mother. I also said that perhaps she was the mother she wished she had, so in some ways it might be a blessing that her mom was the way she was. Otherwise her kids might now have turned out how they did. I am fairly certain I do not get paid enough for the therapy sessions I sometimes hold in my aisle and at my register.
The Jesus Freak was hanging around the pharmacy waiting area from about 10pm until after we closed. He conducts his business there. While I was ear-hustling he was talking to someone about HonestMedications.com and how after consuming a pro-biotic whatever he felt psychologically and physically better. The item in question is on sale at a health food chain. He talked a lot about proboscis and bacteria. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't really know what he is talking about. At 11:57 I told him he had to go, and he asked if he could use the washroom, or was it too late. I said that it was too late, but if he really needed to he could. Apparently he just needed to wash his hands, which is ridiculous. And then he stayed til about 12:05 buying a single-serve bottle of Honest Tea. He knows what time we close, I don't know why he does that.

New Manager
We got a new manager! I like his style, but his speech pattern makes it seem like he is making fun of you. I guess since he is a night guy too it will make it hard for me to get my promotion. Oh well. I like him because he asked about our customer base, how we work together, what everyone's duties are...he didn't come in pretending to know everything or trying to change the rules.
The Senior Beauty Advisor had a different shift today. I actually kind of liked having her around. She gets really high strung about stuff.
A couple of foreign guys were floating around. I helped them find their items, and when my customer saw what lotion his friend picked out:
"It says 'men'. I am man! It says 'lotion'. That I need. It says '24-hour'..."
"You are man for twenty-four hours a day!"
my customer says. I had to laugh at that. But then the first guy says,
"Ah! My finger! It is broke! I use lotion."
What the hell?! His finger did seem misaligned, but it also looked like an old break that had never been set. Either way, what a peculiar thing (and way) to say. I liked them though.

Out Of Sort
Today was kind of terrible. The paper wasn't loading correctly in our newish giganto printer, so I had to have my manager come over and do it. Turns out the main problem was the fact that I was trying to load regular photo paper, and the order called for canvas. I have never done a canvas before, but that didn't stop my manager from indicating I was dum-dum.
Then the other 4x6 printer went out, but I was able to fix that one.
The patriotic endstand I did looks crowded and in slight disarray. But my manager seems ok with it.
I did not finish all of my closing duties, and I was still working when the manager turned out the lights. Guess it was time to clock out.
